Dr. Vasanthakumar Namasivayam (Vasanth) is a medico turned IAS officer who is currently serving as the Executive Director of Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit, University of Manitoba, which was formed to provide techno-managerial support to the Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), pursuant to the Memorandum of Cooperation between the GoUP and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in order to enhance maternal and child health outcomes in the state through better implementation of the RMNCH+A program.
Dr. Vasanth is a physician by training, having pursued his MBBS and MD (General Medicine) from Coimbatore Medical College. Later on in his career as an IAS officer, he went on to pursue his Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University and Masters in Public Policy (MPP) from Princeton University. Thus, with his incredible medical and administrative background, he brings in a combination of research and program delivery experience that ensure high impact implementation of health programmes. Known as a fine health administrator, his work includes enhancing front line workers' capacity, human resources for health, public health drug supply chain, improving evidence-based decision making and enhancing management of emergency care for mothers and newborns. He has served at several key positions such as Director of DSHM (Delhi State Health Mission) for implementation of NHM, Additional Secretary to Chief Minister of Delhi and Director of Centralized Accident and Trauma Service (CATS).
He has been conferred with the President of India's Silver Medal for Census Operations 2011, and also the National e-Governance Gold Medal in the innovative use of GIS technology.
